WHERE WE WORK

SORDES has implemented critical humanitarian projects across various States in Somalia, focusing on providing nutrition, water, sanitation, hygiene (WASH), and educational services. These efforts aim to address the severe challenges faced by communities affected by droughts, floods, and displacement. The organization’s work spans multiple regions, each with targeted interventions tailored to the specific needs of the population.

Jubaland State

In the Gedo Region, SORDES has been active in Bardera, Luuq, and Garbaharey. In Bardera, the organization has conducted flood and drought relief programs, provided emergency drug supplies, and supported local schools through educational initiatives. Additionally, projects like canal rehabilitation have improved water access for surrounding villages. In Luuq, SORDES has delivered lifesaving WASH services to communities displaced by drought, while Garbaharey has benefitted from emergency health programs and nutrition initiatives for vulnerable groups.

The Lower Jubba Region has also witnessed significant interventions, particularly in Kismayu, Afmadow, and Badhadhe. In Kismayu, SORDES has focused on nutrition interventions, health responses, and WASH services for communities in need. Afmadow and Badhadhe have been key areas for nutrition programs targeting children and pregnant mothers, providing critical support during food shortages and displacement crises.

In the Middle Jubba Region, SORDES has worked in Bu’ale and Hagar to implement health and nutrition Projects. These efforts have primarily focused on children and displaced families, addressing malnutrition and providing essential health services.

Banadir Region

Banadir Region, SORDES has operated in Madina, where hygiene promotion and water sanitation projects, funded by international organizations like GIZ and OCHA/SHF, have benefited thousands of displaced persons and local communities.

Hirshabele State

The organization’s efforts extend to other regions as well. In the Middle Shabelle Region, SORDES has implemented emergency nutrition and WASH projects in Jowhar, particularly for communities affected by floods.

South West State

The Bay Region has seen similar projects in Burhakaba, where nutrition and health services have supported those in need.

In these regions SORDES has been actively involved in long-term monitoring and support through the Protection and Return Monitoring Network (PRMN) since 2009.

Through its widespread presence across these regions, SORDES continues to address urgent humanitarian needs while building resilience in Somali communities. By providing essential services and long-term support, the organization has become a vital lifeline for thousands of vulnerable individuals and families.
